Should Celtic and Rangers play in the Premier League?

For over a decade the question of whether Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers should be allowed to join the English top flight has been answered with a defiant “no”. But amid fears that next season’s Premier League could be the most trouble free ever thanks to the relegation of rowdy West Ham and Birmingham, the call has once again gone out to include both Glasgow clubs, in the hope of injecting a degree of bile and hatred not seen since the days when Liverpool fans were warned to calm down a bit. Our panel of experts share their views:

Well Rangers brought 100,000 thugs to Manchester and Wigan only has a population of 80,000! I saw that footage of Czechoslovakia being invaded – that won’t be happening here. Or Skelmersdale.

Newcastle fans like being top of the geographical league, and the last thing we want is a couple of teams to make us look like southerners.

Call me cuckoo, but what next? Africans playing water polo at the rugby world cup? It would be a monumentally stupid, but who cares what the manager of little old Blackpool thinks?
