  4. Alan Ball – “Ran himself into the ground” on day of final. Remains found under pitch in 2002 by builders working on New Wembley
  5. Martin Peters – Remains convinced that looking directly at the camera during a photograph will steal a part of his soul
  6. Geoff Hurst – After finally quitting football in 2002, the increasingly politicised Hurst vowed never to speak about the summer of ‘66 again until peace was achieved in the Middle East
  7. The Jules Rimet trophy – Melted down during disco’s great glitter crisis of 1974.
  8. Bobby Moore – Found fame in early Noughties as contestant on Deal Or No Deal. Unluckily went away with just 10 pence after failing to deal at £23,000
  9. George Cohen – Became the first man to do 100 keep-ups on the moon as part of NASA’s Football in the Community scheme
  10. Policeman – Went on to become pop music’s favourite chameleon David Bowie. Continues to follow England home and away
  11. Ray Wilson – Invented the £2 coin in 1998 after a gruelling shed-based struggle involving 16 major Superglue accidents
