Wacky Mario Balotelli delights nation with cheeky stamp on Scott Parker’s head

ECCENTRIC MANCHESTER City striker Mario Balotelli further cemented his reputation as a loveable character yesterday when he stamped on Scott Parker’s head during his side’s 3-2 victory over Spurs at the Etihad stadium.

With the game heading towards a dull 2-2 draw City boss Roberto Mancini attempted to introduce a bit of spark into proceedings by unleashing Balotelli, who promptly repaid his manager’s faith by aiming his boot at Parker, drawing huge cheers from fans watching across the country and giving grateful journalists something to talk about this morning.

Patrick Viera – watching from the stands after once again getting lost on the way to the Emirates stadium – immediately tweeted his approval, hastily typing out “Balotelli LOL!” and linking to an animated roflcopter .gif for the fifth time this season.

After the game Harry Redknapp admitted that Balotelli “brought the game to life”, praising him for his “heart” and criticising Scott Parker “for making a meal out of some harmless banter”.

“I’ve always said that acts of petulant violence should have a place in football,” the Spurs boss told reporters. “I hope my boys learned a lesson today: you just can’t give a player like Balotelli the time and space to kick you in the head.”

Redknapp added that he was delighted the game finally had a clown prince to rival the hilarious antics of daft as a brush alcoholic wife-beater Paul Gascoinge

Man City’s first team coach David Platt said he hadn’t seen the incident, but was looking forward to watching replays “that would hopefully confirm some more class A tomfoolery from the lad”.

A grinning Balotelli confirmed after the game that the stamp was intentional, while Scott Parker told reporters from a hospital bed that he was “cracking up inside” and “couldn’t wait” to see where Balotelli’s fondness for pranks will take him next.

Such was the excitement generated that Match of the Day 2 reintroduced the 2 Good 2 Bad segment especially for last night’s show, with host Colin Murray and pundits Alan Hansen and Lee Dixon replaying the stamp over and over while laughing hysterically.
