Spice Boys announce reunion tour

THE GROUP known as The Spice Boys comprising ex-Liverpool players Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman, Jason McAteer, Jamie Redknapp and Stan Collymore have confirmed that they will reform next Spring for a nationwide stadium tour.

At a press conference this morning Posh Spice Jason McAteer promised fans that the touring show would be a spectacle on a par with the group’s almost-glory years.

“We will be playing through all the classics,” McAteer said, still sporting his lustrous mane of hair. “Just last week we were rehearsing the 4-3 victory over Newcastle and it seemed like we had never been away.

“We can also promise all our famous in-joke goal celebration routines, and five costume changes including the Cup Final cream suits and that away kit with the khaki green and white quarters.”

Rumours are rife that the group may unveil some new material, with working titles including Masters Football At The Birmingham NEC and Charity Golf Day When Roy Evans Gets Thrown In A River.

After incredible success in the early Nineties with their simple message of ‘Pass Power’ the Spice Boys fell out over a number of creative differences.

Ginger(ish) Spice Steve McManaman wanted to move the group forward in a new experimental direction which included trophies, open top bus tours, and not routinely losing away to rubbish teams.

McManaman eventually left to join supergroup Real Madrid, sounding the death-knell for the Spice Boys, but not before a successful film titled Charity Shield Competitors World which featured cameos from stars Elton John, Meat Loaf, and a very young Steven Gerrard.

By their 1998 release Poor Push For Title That They Were Never Going To Win Under Ill-Judged Joint-Management Duo, the Boys’ popularity was fading. The collection stalled at number four, and the group disbanded and went on to pursue unsuccessful solo projects.

The long-rumoured Spice Boys comeback arrives hot on the heels of a number of successful 90s revival tours. This year Egil Østenstad and Jason Dodd played their excellent Relegation Escape 97/98 in its entirety over five nights at Wembley Stadium, Simon O’Brien’s Standing Room Only returned with a feature-length episode about pies, and Chris Kiwomya and Jason Dozzell starred as themselves in an arthouse play at the Ipswich Community Arts Centre.
